There is a hierarchy that needs to be met to supply the "table legs" needed for a good benefir plan.
They are:
1 - Healthcare - You nailed that one.
2 - It's actually a tie between life and disability (not worker's compensation). For my point here I will say disability is number two because this protects the paycheck if something happens away from work and helps keep your bills paid.
3 - Life insurance - The ONLY insurance guaranteed to pay anyone a dime. Needs vary here, but it is crucial to get the right kind in the right amounts.
4 - 401K - You listed it, but it's only a part of the plan.
With these 4, you have your "table legs" to build on.
Thank you for the thought provoking article, however.

Gene Ramsay
www.generamsay.com

Job Hopper,

It was almost written in stone ...

Job Hopper,

It was almost written in stone that, anyone in their early twenties should contribute as much as they can yearly into their 401k, however the question remains, is this is still good advice for these volatile economic times.

As a Financial planner, I advise my clients to take some time out of their busy schedules to sit down with me for a no obligation Financial Needs Analysis.
